Communication Workers of America
United Mountain Workers is formally organized under the parent union Communication Workers of America (CWA). CWA provides our Local with organizing support, legal representation, financial assistance, training and education opportunities, and connection with an international network of over 700,00 Union siblings.
CWA was founded in 1938 with the unification of groups in Chicago and New Orleans. Known originally as the National Federation of Telephone Workers, the union became the Communications Workers of America in 1947. Although CWA got its start in the telephone industry, today it represents workers across a wide range of sectors including news media, airlines, broadcast and cable television, public service, higher education, health care, manufacturing, high tech fields, and more. CWA includes membership across industries in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada.
The United Mountain Workers are proud to be CWA members and add to their diverse portfolio of unionized industries. To learn more about CWA, please visit their website.
